Adolescent Counseling

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Teenagers often struggle with the conflict between becoming an adult while still be dependent upon values to establish their own sense of identity.  This process can be very confusing for both the parents and teenager. Most teenagers want to be heard, but often resist the efforts from their parents to connect with them.

Having another adult to connect with can be very helpful in helping them to find other alternatives to substance abuse, isolation, apathy about school, self destructive or criminal behaviors to find their way through this conflict.  Another concern with this group is the fact that many mental illnesses can manifest during this time. It is important to rule this out in order for early intervention minimize the impact of this process on the individual and family.

Neil Friedman, LCSW

I have an eclectic, holistic approach in working with people. I believe in helping people recognize and utilize their strengths to overcome any challenge they might face. In this process, we can explore any unconscious blocks that might be interfering with connecting with others and their environment to make the most of each moment. I believe that the “here and now” is where we experience life to the fullest. Along these lines, I try to help people find the balance between their emotional and reasonable minds to effectively problem solve issues to be addressed.
